One thing that I love doing is getting into a luxurious bed. Since we generally spend 1/3 of our lives in bed, I thought I should look into bedding that is healthier for me and the environment, yet still wrapped in luxury.
What’s wrong with regular ol’ cotton? Growing it uses a lot of pesticides, and processing and manufacturing uses a lot of carcinogenic dyes and chemicals. Click here to view WWF’s take on the subject.
But there are lots of options out there now, at retailers and online, for organic cotton sheets, blankets, comforters, duvets, mattress covers, and even pet beds! There are chemical-free mattresses, pillows and jammies too! You can also find bedroom furniture whose wood comes from sustainably managed forests.
Some of my picks for guilt-free shopping are: Loop (Brooklyn, NY, looporganic.com); Gaiam Harmony (Broomfield, CO, gaiam.com); and Earthsake (Berkeley, CA, earthsake.com).
