Straw-bale houses are indeed comprised of straw and are actually very dense and strong, even in earthquake territory. They can be built just about anywhere, as long as they are constructed properly to ward off high levels of humidity, in areas where that condition exists. Benefits of straw-bale construction are: built of natural waste materials, high energy efficiency and fire resistance, as well as being aesthetically pleasing.
