My thoughts are that yes, it has a lot to do with it! For example, the millions of people living in the suburbs must drive several miles, and therefore emit carbon dioxide, every time we leave the house for work, play, or to find all of life’s “necessities”.
According to an article from Engineering News-Record, “projections suggest that 2/3 of development that will be in place in 2050 has not yet been built.” That provides us a significant opportunity to build more compact communities where we can live more efficiently and sustainably.
