What’s Your IAQ?

IAQ, or Indoor Air Quality, is how good or bad the air quality inside a building is. The EPA estimates that indoor air is two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. It’s heavily influenced by furnishings and finishes that contain, and “outgas”, chemicals into our homes and places of work. These chemicals, some found to be carcinogens, can have adverse effects on our health.

An ironic fact is that newer homes, built tighter and more energy-efficient, often have poorer indoor air quality, since the new products used to build and furnish the home are just beginning their “outgassing” processes. So what can you do to increase your IAQ? Look for more natural products for everything from cleaning products to paint and furnishings. And open your windows for some fresh air!

I do several blog postings about various materials and products for the home and office, so stay tuned to learn more.
