Brad Pitt Continues Green Building Efforts in New Orleans

make-it-right-nola-project-pink.jpgAs if pledging $5 million isn’t enough, Brad Pitt is far more involved with rebuilding efforts in New Orleans. He has teamed up with sustainable design experts to build at least 150 new, green homes for residents in the Ninth Ward, an area hit particularly hard by Hurricane Katrina.

13 Architectural firms have been commissioned for Pitt’s project, called Make it Right, to design affordable and energy-efficient 1200 square foot houses. Of course one of the requirements for the homes is that they be built 5-8 feet off the ground to avoid future flooding. They must also have a front porch to retain the community feel and three bedrooms for the families who will reside there, hopefully within the next several months.

Currently vibrant pink fabric houseforms (pictured here) stand where future homes will be built to draw attention to the project.

Donations are being sought for the revitalization project. Visit makeitrightnola.org to give the perfect gift of a donation this holiday season.
