Green Construction = Maximum Efficiency + Savings

With rising energy prices and no end in site, it makes sense to build to maximum energy efficiency standards and reap the savings.  New technologies are making it easier for builders and remodeling homeowners to go green.

One can incorporate engineered wall systems (structural insulated panels); improved insulation; and energy-efficient doors, windows, HVAC systems, tankless or solar water heaters, lighting, and appliances. Water conservation, improved indoor air quality, and use of environmentally-friendly materials are also key components of sustainable building.

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has developed a “Green Building Program”, scheduled to debut this February at the International Builders Show® in Orlando, Florida.  It will certify homes that voluntarily meet certain energy efficient standards.  100,000 homes across the country have already been certified through similar state and local programs.  The NAHB Program “will provide a registry of green homes and green builders, as well as extensive educational resources.”
