Build on a Marsh, Get Mold

It makes sense to me, but years ago (1970 to be exact), there seemed to be nothing wrong with building a baseball dormitory on a marshy area in Sarasota County. Since then, the building had been sold to the county to be used as an office building. It underwent a renovation in 2003 when mold was discovered (imagine that) for the first time and a green office building was constructed adjacent to the original structure.

In 2005, the office complex consisting of both buildings was awarded LEED-Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council for its greenness. Now, despite efforts to control moisture (and mold), the original building has a mold problem again and even requires evacuation. Hopefully, they’ll be able to fix the problem, but I think being built where no structure should have been built in the first place, it might be tough to conquer.
