The Road to Solar

The Dutch have put into action an innovative idea to generate solar power for homes and offices–through pipes underneath the asphalt of roads and parking lots. And they typically look up to cloudy skies much of the time, but “The Road Energy System” works! Added benefits include extending the life of roads, as well as keeping the road surface free of ice in the winter.

According to an article at MSNBC.com, where you can find all the details, “The installation cost is about twice as much as normal gas heating, but the energy required is about half of what would otherwise be needed. That translates into lower monthly heating bills and a 50 percent savings in carbon emissions.”

I think the road to solar may be bumpy and long, but the potential to harness the power of the sun is worth exploring.
