If you’re sensitive to synthetic chemicals, or concerned about indoor air quality or the environment, one thing you can do is consider purchasing a natural mattress when it’s time to replace that worn-out bed. It just makes sense to have a great bed, especially one made from renewable materials, since we spend so much of our lives on it.
Natural rubber latex is one great option for a restful night’s sleep since these mattresses offer pressure point relief to hips and shoulders, as well as regulate body temperature. Organic cotton and wool are other great choices. Advantages include inherent qualities of being hypoallergenic, biodegradable, and dust-mite resistant.

For a detailed explanation of why organic is better, visit the website of California-based Lifekind Products here. Other resources for organic mattresses: The Organic Mattress Store in Pennsylvania; British Columbia’s Rawganique; Savvy Rest in Virginia. Of course there are several others which you can google search.

What would be a good choice for someone with a latex allergy?

Hi Anna,
The organic cotton/wool mattresses are great alternatives to the natural latex mattresses for those with allergies, and can be found at the manufacturer’s I listed in the post.
We developed a natural memory foam. www.EssentiaDirect.com.
It’s made using latex, essential oils, plants extracts and water so it’s odorless and breathes 80% better than memory foam.
