Despite a fragile housing market, demand for green homes continues to grow. That’s no exception in San Jose’s first LEED-certified green homes sub-division. Seven out of the first nine homes were sold last weekend, likely due in part to the fact that they were priced at the same price point as non-green-certified homes.
Even though the standard feature of integrated solar roofs alone added costs of $20,000-$25,000 per home, the builder hasn’t passed that onto buyers. By adding the solar systems to all 70 homes planned for the development and with incentives from California and PG&E, this can be accomplished.
The energy efficient homes also feature earth-friendly and water-conserving strategies which make them attractive to buyers who aim to have less impact on the environment and save money on utility bills.
