A parking lot at 18th and Arch streets is the intended site for Philadelphia’s tallest skyscraper, the American Commerce Center. Not only will it dwarf the city’s other high-rises, it will be amongst the tallest in the world. The new 1500-foot, mixed-use building will also be seeking LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
The intent is to construct a high performance building, one that is resource- and energy-efficient in an effort to reduce its impact on human health and the environment. Philadelphia’s Mayor Nutter approves of the plan which fits in well with the city’s sustainable building efforts.
The proposed skyscraper will house office, retail and hotel space, as well as a multi-screen movie theater. Other potential tenants range from restaurants to a high-end home store, a health club and gourmet food store.

i suggest that the acc tower should start getting
built later this year-in the fall; so it can be
done by 2012.
