Scenic Schulyer, Virginia was the setting for the famed television series “The Waltons” and is now home to an eco-village on former soapstone quarry land. That small town charm welcomes visitors, and residents alike, at the foot of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The environmentally-sensitive development of “The Quarries” is situated on 580 acres where green homes dot the landscape above the spring-fed quarry (pictured here).
The community features walking trails, a common park area, and minimal site disturbance. Homes here have been designed with sustainability in mind. Such green elements include: passive solar design, solar energy, non-toxic materials, locally-quarried soapstone, on-demand water heaters, eco-friendly flooring, radiant in-floor heating, energy-efficient windows, and well-insulated building envelopes.
