Even in a down real estate market, the growth of green-built homes is evident. The latest market research released by McGraw-Hill Construction reveals this year’s residential green building market to be worth $12 billion to $20 billion (6 percent to 10 percent of the market), with an expectation of it to double in five years.
40% of builders think green building helps them market their homes in a down market. Buyers want to pay less in monthly utility bills, and own a home that is more comfortable with good indoor air quality–all signs of high performance green-built homes. The study indicates that quality is the number one reason for building green. Energy cost savings and doing the right thing for the environment tied for second place.
