Green PreFab Homes with a Traditional Flair

We’ve all seen sustainable modular homes whose modern design takes center stage, but what about prefab homes with a softer, more traditional look? The home pictured here answers that very question.

This is yet another example that green is going mainstream. This eco-friendly modular home, built by New World Home, is featured in the October issue of Country Living magazine.

The home’s sustainable features (and modularity, for that matter) may not be apparent from its facade, but it offers such innovative green building strategies as positioning the home on the site to take advantage of passive solar heat; increased energy efficiency; and less wood used in its construction. Plus, the majority of the building process is conducted in the factory which protects the structure from the elements.

Other green features include: long-lasting, low-maintenance Hardiplank siding made with recycled content; low VOC paints and stains (Volatile Organic Compounds can negatively impact human health); cabinetry that contains low levels of the carcinogen formaldehyde; locally harvested wood floors; and even vintage fireplace mantels.

New World Home offers several traditional designs and an attractive price-per-square foot averaging $115-$180.
