A couple of months ago, I did a series of posts about sustainable flooring. One segment of my series was about floor tile made with recycled content. I have since discovered a couple more eco-options and will elaborate here in this post.
- The Vision Recycled Tile line by Innovative Ceramics, an Alpharetta, Georgia company, offers 40 beautiful colors of floor/wall tile for both residential and commercial applications. This tile line which is made in the USA, contains 55% or more recycled glass from post-consumer (bottles) and post industrial (car windshields) sources. My favorite is the Tormaline, a soothing shade of green sage.
- American Olean tile contains pre-consumer (post-industrial) and post-consumer recycled materials. The company has extensive environmental policies in place for its manufacturing practices, including locating numerous factories in the U.S. and Mexico to minimize transportation impacts. Most tile glazes used are water-based and contain minimal amounts of solvents. Their website contains a fun, interactive “Envision Your Room” tool where you can upload a photo of your room or use one of their pictured rooms to view endless new flooring options.
