Greening the Restaurant Industry One Kitchen at a Time

From time to time, I come across a news article or blog post about a restaurant going green. Here’s one located in New York City that I wrote about a few months back. It occurred to me, as well as a group of environmentalists out in Colorado that commercial kitchens in restaurants, hotels, schools, and hospitals might be interested in becoming more eco-friendly, but don’t know how to go about doing it.

That is the mission of FoodServiceWarehouse.com, a Greenwood Village, CO company that has “created an industry leading certification program aimed at helping commercial kitchens cope with the costs and complexities of going green. The program features educational resources, rewards and the industry’s only free certification process, modeled after, and fulfilling credits for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.”

The company’s Green Kitchen Consultant, Ashley, explains, “To show our dedication in helping commercial kitchens slash energy costs, conserve water and reduce their environmental impact, we are giving away a green commercial kitchen worth up to $40,000 to one qualifying kitchen.”

Enter now before November 30th to win the Green Commercial Kitchen Giveaway. The drawing will be held on or around December 15, 2008. Click here for more information and to enter the sweepstakes.
