Now this is using the imagination! A solar and wind powered house that sits on 6 movable hydraulic legs was built by art collective N55 in Copenhagen, Denmark, who worked in conjunction with engineers at MIT in Massachusetts. It was designed to escape flooding and cost only £30,000 to build.
The walking pod contains a living room, kitchen, toilet, bed, wood stove and mainframe computer which controls the legs. It’s makers hope it will serve as inspiration to lift other structures off the ground in areas prone to flooding.
If you happen to be in the Bourn area, check out its maiden stroll around rural Cambridgeshire at the Wysing Arts Centre on Thursday.
