We’ve all heard of the Roomba that propels itself around the house vacuuming dirty floors. Built on that same kind of robotic concept is the Automower Solar Hybrid by Swedish company Husqvarna. It’s making its debut in the U.S. at this weekend’s Green Industry & Equipment Expo in Kentucky.
‘It is capable of autonomously maintaining a property of up to a half acre and runs on a rechargeable nickel metal hydride battery.’ While it’s out mowing the lawn, it’s recharging its batteries!
It even incorporates built-in safety features. ‘The robot automatically shuts off its blades if the mower is lifted, can be locked, has an alarm to deter theft, and uses sensors to work around large objects such as lawn furniture.’
If you actually enjoy a little exercise and don’t mind mowing the lawn, I think the best (and non-polluting) lawn mower is the reel mower (see my earlier post here). Its sure to be much less expensive than the Automower Solar Hybrid.
