Inspirational Eco-Friendly Art

You know how the old adage goes, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Well, it couldn’t be more true for these ingenious artists whose medium almost ended up in the landfill. From paper to rebar, these pieces of art inspire all who see them.

Sandhi Schimmel Gold creates fine art — mosaic portraits — fashioned out of junk mail, old greeting cards, and any other paper material destined for the garbage. The artist will even do an interpretation of you if you’d like! Her work can be viewed in galleries, museums, and fine art juried shows, and is pictured here.

Artist and photographer Dwayne Bass of Decatur, Georgia uses construction debris to create amazing sculptures that adorn the exteriors of commercial and industrial buildings. One piece enabled the building’s developer to receive a point toward LEED certification through the U.S. Green Building Council.

The next group of artists are careful to consider the environmental impacts of their works of art.

Megan Ueberroth’s soothing nature-inspired pieces are painted on only organic cotton canvas stretched with her hand-made sustainable bamboo bars. The artist mixes her own paints from natural, environmentally-friendly pigments with a non-toxic, solvent-free, water based medium that’s made completely from plant matter!

Artist, designer, and architect Anne Johnson creates fine art note cards, and other stationary pieces, featuring rare and threatened creatures on recycled and tree-free paper.  Even the Inks used are aqueous or soy based.  Her company PassionFly contributes 10 percent of profits to U.S. land conservation organizations.

Award-winning Artist McKenzie, aka the Hollywood Charity Artist, uses only eco-friendly materials and actually donates 100% of profits to organizations who directly support environmental activism, social justice, art, and education.  She offers a wide selection of nature-inspired pieces.
