- Many commercial soaps are manufactured using coconut oil as base. Coconut oil makes the best and richest lathering soaps, and naturally antimicrobial at that. Ask anyone with a decent enough knowledge in soap making and they&#039;ll say the same thing.

You might want to mix in some other oils like palm oil or olive oil. Because of its potent antimicrobial properties, coconut oil can prove to be too strong when used solely. Just my two cents.
