Looking for a way to brighten up both the interior and exterior of your home for the holidays without running up your electricity bill? Super efficient LEDs, or Light Emitting Diodes, are the answer! LEDs use 80-90% less energy than conventional incandescent lighting, plus they don’t heat up like incandescents. In addition, they last much longer, for decades in fact!
Whether your home or yard is calling for strings, ropes, icicles, nets, snowflakes or other novelty lights, you can opt for brillant colors or peaceful white in many shapes and sizes. Look for holiday light sets, in stores and online, that carry the Energy Star label to ensure they’ve been tested by an independent third-party for energy efficiency. Also, as with any lighting, be sure they approved by UL (Underwriter Laboratories) for safety.
Here’s a list of some U.S. manufacturer’s and/or suppliers of LED holiday lighting. These companies also Energy Star partners:
- Holiday Creations, Inc., Colorado
- Inliten, LLC, Illinois
- Ledup Enterprise, Inc., California
- Osram Sylvania Inc., Massachusetts
- Santa’s Best Craft, Ltd., Connecticut
- Seasonal Specialties, LLC, Minnesota
- Technical Consumer Products, Inc., Ohio
You’ve likely seen LEDs in action as many elaborate venues, such as the Rockefeller Center Tree in NYC, use LED lights to to add holiday cheer.

It’s amazing how much difference LEDs can make in your energy bill…they’re a great choice for replacing burnt-out holiday lights.
