Here’s an informative list of easy tips that can be implemented in any dorm room.  The only thing I would add to the list is something to warm up the floor, such as eco-friendly carpet tiles made from recycled content.  See my earlier post here about these ingenious, modular floor coverings.

When I was in college, it was all about reusing and recycling and repurposing. Glad to see that hasn’t changed. Of course I didn’t know I was being “green” when I did it.

The most important thing is to think out of the box. Keep a bucket (or two, or three) in your bathroom for showers, and then use that water to flush the toilet or wash your car! And please — use a reusable shopping bag!! (And don’t go out and BUY a NEW reusable bag!! just grab a couple of the old plastic ones you’ve already got wadded up under the sink!! 🙂

That’s the thing. The “greenest” things or ways of living aren’t going involve be the cool, hip green things you buy at the store. They’re going to be small measures, like biking five blocks instead of driving, reusing things wisely instead of always relying on manufacturers to make something for your needs, etc.

Thank you for writing about this. While we’re on the topic og going back to school and activism, you might want to check out this video I saw o YouTube on how to “green yourself” back to school: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NbB_ANPZS0

Yep, when I was in college it was all about “reduce, reuse and recycle”. Maybe it wasn’t because a carred so much about the environment, but because I was trying to save money :).
