Share this on:Next Tuesday, April 22nd, is Earth Day, a day to celebrate our beautiful planet and the strides we have made to help preserve it for future generations. Events designed to instill environmental awareness are planned around the world.
Here’s a look at one company’s plans: architectural firm HOK is launching a challenge, “Go Barefoot Day,” to its 2,500 employees to alter their transportation, travel and work habits to contribute to reducing the firm’s collective environmental impact. The company’s intent is that these simple behavioral changes may lead to lasting habits. The “Go Barefoot” initiative supports HOK’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions from its projects and practice by 50 % by 2010. This goal reflects United Nations reports that recognize the significant role that buildings play in contributing to greenhouse gas emissions.
