Eco-friendly Kids’ Furniture

When furnishing your little one’s room, nontoxic materials and good indoor air quality are important considerations that will create a healthy environment for your developing child. Some U.S. furniture manufacturers go the extra mile and offer solid wood furniture that is made with nontoxic paints to minimize harmful VOCs, or Volatile Organic Compounds. Stay with the eco-friendly theme by using zero-VOC products when painting your child’s room too!

  • DucDuc’s kids’ furniture is made from sustainably-harvested, regional New England hardwoods and finished with non-toxic paints and stains. Its bunk beds (pictured here), changing tables, tables & chairs, armoires, cribs, beds, desks, dressers, and storage units are available at select furniture stores across the country.
  • Ecotots designs and manufacturers its easily-assembled modern wood furniture in its Richmond, Indiana facility. All of its products are made from renewable FSC Certified Smart Wood®, and are available in a variety of eco-friendly, UV finishes.
  • Lilipad Studio’s kids’ tables & chairs and step stools are made from FSC-certified woods and hand-painted with non-toxic, zero-VOC paints at this small company’s Hailey, Idaho facility. The collections are available online.
  • Michigan’s own Knú has created a stylish table and chairs set from FSC-certified Baltic birch ply and colored with brillantly-hued lead free dyes and a glossy low-VOC varnish. Even the steel legs contain 40% recycled content.
  • Nurseryworks handcrafts its clean-lined, ready-to-assemble furniture from some sustainably-grown woods and low-emitting mdf (medium density fiberboard).  It also uses low-VOC finishes, lacquers, glues, and formaldehyde-free dyes.
  • Brooklyn-based Oeuf manufactures its baby and children’s furniture (in Latvia, Europe) from sustainably-harvested birch.  It finishes pieces with lead-free, non-toxic, and completely inert lacquers. The furniture is available through various online retailers.

Furnishing kids bedroom is one of the most creative home decorating aspect. It has to be more comfortable for kids and should be accessible for all kids products.

Have you seen the selection of kids furniture? SO CUTE! And very reasonably priced for mid-century classic furniture.

You forgot the PLUUNK kids bunks. Nice, well made bunks made of real wood finished in low-VOC. Oh and stylish too! These look like they are made to last.
