scs-sustainable-choice.jpgScientific Certification Systems (SCS), an independent third-party certifier of sustainability claims, recently announced its new Sustainable Choice label for furniture that meets high environmental performance standards.

Products that earn the new label have met the sustainability requirements of the new Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturer’s Association Sustainability Standard (BIFMA SS).  The criteria under evaluation for these products include:  materials, energy & atmosphere, human & ecosystem health, and social responsibility.

“A variety of products, including systems furniture, casegoods, tables, and seating produced by some of the industry’s leading manufacturers — Allsteel, Gunlocke, The HON Company, Kimball Office, and National Office Furniture — were certified under the Sustainable Choice program.  These products had previously earned certification under the stringent indoor air quality standards of the SCS Indoor Advantage Program.”

SCS has certification programs for agricultural production, food processing and handling, forestry, fisheries, flowers and plants, energy, green building, consumer and business product manufacturing, and corporate social responsibility.
