New Jersey’s First Green Senior Housing

Millville, NJ is now home to the state’s first green affordable senior housing building.  The 74-unit mid-rise features high performance building techniques designed to conserve energy, water and resources.

The Glasstown Residence at River Park is 20-30% more efficient than a comparable conventionally-constructed building. Even the lawn is green:  a slow-growing, drought-tolerant grass was planted to minimize pollutants from mowing.  Another great solution would be to use reel mowers that don’t require gasoline or electricity to run.

Paul Dice, executive director of The Glasstown Residence, said “The mission of this project is to provide high-quality, affordable housing to seniors, and today that mission is accomplished.”  The building is already more than 75% occupied and serves as inspiration for the town’s future revitalization efforts.
