Outdoor Building Materials and Furniture Options

Recycled plastic or composite wood products are great alternatives to chemically treated wood for outdoor furniture, decking and fencing. They are extremely durable and long-lasting, look great, and are virtually maintenance-free! They are also cost-competitive for higher-end wood options and slightly more expensive than standard, treated wood products.

Recycled plastic furniture is made with 100% post-consumer recycled plastic from soda bottles and milk jugs. It is resistant to the harshest weather conditions; will not rot, warp, or splinter; will not fade and doesn’t need waterproofing or staining; easy to clean; can be recycled; and best of all, insects won’t feed on it! We like EPS Plastic Lumber and EcoFurniture‘s assortment of “poly-wood” outdoor furniture, as well as their sustainably-harvested real wood furniture.

Composite wood lumber is a combination of recycled wood and sawdust mixed with either virgin PVC or polyethylene, or with recycled plastic. Decking, fencing and other products in this material are resistant to insects and rotting; and don’t need waterproofing or staining. However, composite wood is not quite as rigid as real wood and may slightly deform in extremely hot weather, and some types may be susceptible to staining and fading over time.
