Recycled Glass Makes Beautiful and Durable Countertops

Share this on:

It’s amazing how crushed glass mixed with a binding agent can create such cool countertops for the kitchen and bath.  The companies that make these solid surfaces not only divert waste materials from landfills, but many use sustainable manufacturing processes as well.  These eco-friendly alternatives to granite and quartz  are offered in a wide variety of colors and edge profiles.

Previously, I’ve written about IceStone, UltraGlas, eco-X, and EnviroGlas products, along with others made with concrete and recycled glass.  However, the list of companies offering recycled glass countertops is growing.  Here’s a few more:

  • Gilasi (pictured here).  Chicago, IL.  These countertops are composed of 85% recycled glass by weight and come in 24 colors.
  • UrbanSlabs.  Santa Ana, CA.  Finely ground recycled glass makes up the 9 standard colors.
  • WF Decor.  San Diego, CA.  Twelve colors are available in this company’s Vetro Rotto collection.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention Vetrazzo (http://www.vetrazzo.com) which is the original recycled glass surface. It’s been around since 1996 and has a 13-year track record which allows them to offer a 10-year warranty.

Yes, vetrazzo is certainly beautiful and sustainable. In this article, I had provided a link to my previous post where it was listed: http://www.greenstrides.com/2009/03/10/recycled-materials-concrete-cool-countertops/. Thanks for your comment.

If you are looking for a recycled glass countertop that really is made from 100% recycled glass [no cements or resins] you might look at GleenGlass. We are one of the few companies worldwide that create all-glass surfaces from recycled glass. Our products look much like beach glass and are extremely durable. Take a look at hppt://www.gleenglass.com

    Thanks,

    John

    John,
I don’t see any mention of glass countertops on your website, but the glasses and tumblers are great.
