south-boston.jpgInterested in green building? If so, be sure to check out the movie “The Greening of Southie” which will air on the Sundance channel on Earth Day, next Tuesday. It’s an inspiring documentary depicting the ups and downs of constructing south Boston’s first residential green building in a town where workers are unfamiliar with the concept.

The condominium building, the Macallan, achieved a LEED gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for adhering to high environmental standards. The condo has been designed to consume 30% less electricity than a comparable conventionally-built building and conserve 600,000+ gallons of water per year. Other earth-friendly features include the use of daylighting strategies; a green roof; and the use of recyclable, renewable, and natural materials.

The movie will air on April 22nd at 9:35 pm.
