The Inherent Beauty of Reclaimed Wood Furnishings

Whether you are looking for a new dining room hutch or a new bedroom set, furniture made from reclaimed wood is an environmentally-friendly way to go. Made from aged wine barrels, old barn timbers, fallen dead trees, and even wood that the ocean has drifted ashore, reclaimed wood creates beautiful, high quality furnishings.

There’s something for everyone when it comes to reclaimed wood furniture. Some old wood is completely re-milled to create clean-lined contemporary styles. Other salvaged wood is worked to reproduce antiques with a unique rustic appearance and aged patina. Still other pieces resemble the tree from which it was created (like the table pictured here from Urban Hardwoods). Furnishings are available in a wide variety of wood species and styles, and some are finished with a hand-rubbed stain or paint, while other pieces are left unfinished for the handy do-it-yourselfer.

Much of the reclaimed wood furniture available online or in specialty shops across the country are typically handcrafted in the USA. Prices are comparable to high end furniture, but still reasonable considering the furniture is solid wood construction and built to a high degree of quality.

Using reclaimed wood, some of which could be centuries old, helps to preserve the world’s dwindling forests.

Meyer Wells also builds modern furniture from reclaimed trees, but offers a level of sophistication and custom-design that goes beyond that of many other salvaged wood furniture companies. Check out some of their designs at http://www.meyerwells.com.
