What makes a city green? For starters: energy sources, water and air quality, transit options, green building efforts, land use, traffic congestion, and government initiatives. If you’re wondering where your city falls in the realm of sustainability, look no further than

SustainLane’s ranking of the top 50 eco-friendly cities in the United States. The top five include New York, NY; Chicago, IL; Seattle, WA; San Francisco, CA; and Portland, OR–in first place. The most improved city is Atlanta, GA with it’s impressive number of buildings seeking LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification through the U.S. Green Building Council.
